Lightweight Interior Planters with Built-in Container Irrigation

Natural Spring planters combine an attractive, contemporary planter with Planter Technology's exclusive container irrigation system. Plants in Natural Spring look their best with a minimum of maintenance. The planter's generous water reservoir holds enough to go up to 4 weeks between filling on interior applications, and 2-3 weeks for exterior applications. They are available in sizes ranging from 8" up to 36", for most plants in most applications.

The Natural Spring planter uses Planter Technology's exclusive vacuum-sensor system to automatically monitor the moisture level in the soil, and replace the water only when it is used by the plant. These containers have lowered maintenance costs in hundreds of thousands of installations over the last 20 years, in projects ranging from airports to residential installations. For exterior applications the water-efficient Natural Spring system uses an overflow drainage adapter to keep irrigation water in, but allow excess water (i.e. rainwater) to drain.

Materials

Natural Spring planters are manufactured in High Impact Polystyrene and Linear Low Density Polyethylene (PT-3600 only). They are available in 18 different standard colors. The units are typically painted with acrylic enamel for a long lasting, durable finish. Planters range in size from 8" to 36" in diameter (see chart for exact sizes and details).

How Natural Spring Planters Work

Natural Spring planters incorporate a double wall system that holds up to 4 weeks worth of water for interior applications. The reservoir is hand-filled, then closed with a stopper, creating a vacuum-tight system.

When the soil is dry (indicating the plants and flowers need water), the moisture sensor allows air to pass through the tube into the reservoir, allowing water to flow into the container from an opening in the bottom of the planting area. The water wicks up through the soil, irrigating the plants.

As the soil becomes moist, the sensor (planted in the soil 1/3 to 1/2 -way down the container) absorbs water. When wet, it acts like a valve, blocking the flow of air through the tube. A vacuum is created above the reservoir, preventing further watering until the soil begins to dry.

The overflow drainage adapter allows excess water that builds up (typically rainwater) to escape without disrupting the system.
